Incredible Support for Dentures, Crowns and Bridges
If you are missing teeth and would like to achieve superior support for your dentures, crowns or bridges, dental implants are an excellent solution. We restore implants at our office serving Worcester and greater Worcester County.
Your teeth are incredibly important to your oral and overall health. If you are missing teeth, it can cause imbalance in your bite, loss of bone mass in the jaw, improper shifting of surrounding teeth, and other complications. It can impair your ability to chew and speak properly, and it has an immense impact on the appearance of your smile. Crowns, bridges and dentures are the best solution for replacing missing teeth, and dental implants are the best possible means of supporting these restorations. These surgically implanted titanium posts serve as prosthetic tooth roots, providing an anchor that is immune to decay, and can actually help you preserve bone mass in your jaw. If you are a suitable candidate for dental implants, Dr. Savas will discuss this option with you. This procedure can now be done in our office and it alleviates the need for you to go to a periodontist. Once healing is complete, Dr. Savas can create and place your custom restoration in a single visit using CEREC technology.
Contact our Worcester office today to find out if dental implants are right for you.
Like your natural teeth, dental implants rely on your jaw bone for fundamental support. If you have been missing a tooth for an extended period of time, your jaw may have lost valuable bone mass needed to support an implant. In some cases, a bone graft may be administered to achieve adequate bone mass.
The surest way to determine if dental implants are a suitable treatment for you to is undergo a thorough oral examination by Dr. Savas. Schedule an appointment with us today to find out if you are a candidate for dental implants.
The process of receiving dental implants typically requires two surgeries performed over the course of three to six months. The first surgery begins with a local anesthetic to ensure your comfort. An incision is made in the gums, exposing the jaw bone. Dr Savas will drill a small pilot hole before inserting the threaded implant. Finally, the gum will be stitched closed over the implant. Over the next three to six months, the implant will fuse with the bone.
Once Dr Savas determines that the implant has completely fused with your jaw, you will return for a second surgery. Once again, an anesthetic is applied to the gums. An incision in the gums exposes the top of the implant, and a special abutment is attached, which will facilitate the healing of the gums around the implant post. When the gums have healed once again, you will return to Dr. Savas’ office. He will create an impression of your implant and the adjacent teeth. This impression will be sent to a special laboratory, where technicians will create your custom crown, bridge or dentures. In about two weeks, your restoration will be ready for placement.
Dental implants can be a valuable investment in your smile. If you are missing a tooth, a traditional dental bridge often relies upon adjacent teeth for support, and those teeth must be altered to accommodate crowns. An implant, on the other hand, can support a bridge without the alteration of other teeth. Implants can be especially beneficial for denture wearers, because the level of support they provide is far superior to the mild adhesive used to secure conventional denture to the gums. Perhaps most importantly, dental implants can help you retain bone mass in your jaw. Your body naturally begins resorbing bone cells in the absence of tooth roots, but this process stops when dental implants are present.
If you want the very best support for dental prosthetics, dental implants restored at our Worcester office may be an outstanding option for you. To learn more, schedule an appointment with Dr. Savas today.
