Instant Orthodontics Treatment

November 14, 2012 @ 12:51 PM — by Christy Savas

Worcester Instant OrthodonticsTeeth that are slightly out of alignment can have a deleterious effect on your smile. You have probably considered undergoing orthodontic work such as braces or Invisalign® if you have minor crowding or gaps between the teeth; perhaps you have even undergone such treatment in the past, but your teeth have begun to shift again. The disadvantages of orthodontic work deter many patients from undergoing this type of treatment. But did you know that there is an alternative cosmetic treatment option for crooked or gapped teeth? With instant orthodontics, or the placement of porcelain veneers to close gaps or mask crookedness, Worcester cosmetic dentist Christy Savas can improve the appearance of your smile in as little as one or two weeks!

Instant Orthodontics Candidates

If you have a tooth that juts out at an odd angle or several teeth that do not sit flush with one another, you may be a suitable candidate for porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers can be used for:

  • Slightly buck teeth
  • Gaps in between teeth
  • Minor crowding of the tooth
  • Mild underbite or overbite
  • Teeth that are different sizes
  • Asymmetry

Ideal patients have healthy teeth and gums, as the veneers are intended to correct aesthetic imperfections. For our patients in Worcester, Invisalign® or traditional braces may be required for patients with more severe misalignment issues.

The Instant Orthodontics Procedure

The instant orthodontics treatment is tailored to the patient's unique needs, so each treatment will differ as to which teeth are treated and how much tooth material is removed; the size, shape, and color of the veneers will also be crafted to complement surrounding facial features. In general, the treatment will be broken into the following stages:

Your First Appointment

At your first appointment, we will prep the teeth and formulate the specifications from which each individual veneer can be made.

  • Preparation of the teeth: When porcelain veneers are used on straight teeth, a minimal amount of tooth enamel is removed. When they are used to make the teeth appear straighter, however, more of the tooth material may need to be recontoured to bring the teeth into better alignment. Dr. Savas will conserve as much natural tooth material as possible, while still producing a good result.
  • Physical mold: Once the teeth have been prepared, a mold is taken of the teeth to be treated. The mold acts as a model from which the technicians at the off-site laboratory can craft the veneers. Dr. Savas will provide specific instructions so each veneer is made to perfectly fit over your tooth and produce the most ideal appearance.
  • Placement of a temporary veneer: To protect your treated tooth or teeth while we wait for your veneers to be fabricated, a temporary veneer or veneers will be secured in place. The temporary veneers also have the added benefit of improving the appearance of your smile.

Off-site Fabrication of the Veneer

Your veneers will be fabricated from a solid block of porcelain at an off-site dental laboratory. This stage of the procedure can take a week or two. We will schedule a time for you to come into our office for the final placement of your veneers.

Your Second Appointment

At your second appointment, your veneer or veneers can be bonded into place. First Dr. Savas will ensure that they fit over your tooth and produce a look that suits you. Then, the veneers will be secured into place with a durable bonding medium. Any excess bonding material will be removed, and the veneers will be polished.

The instant orthodontics procedure offers excellent results for patients with minor misalignment issues. Contact the practice of Christy W. Savas, DDS, to schedule your porcelain veneers consultation with us.
